Beauty of the East Coast (2023)
Beauty of the East Coast series, a total of 3 printmaking artworks, mainly show the beauty of the East Coast traditional theatre, weaving machines and traditional games.
The East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, tracing the shorelines of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor (Mersing), measures 66,736 sq. km in area or 51 % of Peninsular Malaysia. The East Coast is home to some four million people of different ethnic groups all living in peace and harmony. There is religious tolerance. Everyone practices freedom of religion and there is no discordance apparent for all living under the same environment and within the East Coast society itself. This creates a sense of pride and identification that can only be found among the people of the East Coast states. The cuisine is definitely their own. The identity is so uniquely theirs that even when sold outside, customers will know instantly these are food and delicacies from the East Coast states. This is also further evidence of the people's generosity and warmth in accepting diversity and forming a social construct that is permeated/ saturated/ infused even in their cuisine. Differences of religions and race are not detriments, but rather acceptance and goal bound for sustainability. The East Coast is well known as the cradle of Malay culture based on the diverse cultural activities practiced here. The society is unique because they share an unbreakable bond manifested in their cultural activities among themselves. This blending is their identity of a social conduct. There is no discrimination but acceptance and tolerance.
